The host for the chlorella viruses. Endosymbiotic chlorella, strain NC64A, was originally isolated from the cilliated protozoan Paramecium bursaria collected in the southeastern USA. The cell is approximately 6 microns in diameter. Viruses infecting this alga are referred to as NC64A viruses. Another chlorella host, strain Pbi, has been isolated from paramecium in Europe. Viruses that infect the Pbi alga are referred to as Pbi viruses. The NC64A viruses do not infect the Pbi alga and the Pbi viruses do not infect the NC64A alga. |
